How much area does a pound of seeds cover?

I use a 6 inch pot. I put a bunch of seed in it for heavy coverage I've probably grown 6 pots like that so far and have not even made a dent in this 1 lb bag of seed. What's left will easily last me a year, probably two. Does that help?

How long can the seeds be stored/when do the seeds go bad?

Generally seeds are ok for 2-3 years, provided they are stored in a cool dry place. While some seeds freeze well, most grass seeds will suffer lower germination rates if frozen. Also, before planting check for mold/mildew. It shouldn't smell of anything but grass.
